DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — After the loss of 6-year-old Noah Edwards, the Decatur community is rallying behind the family, hoping to raise $10,000.

Matthew Joyner held a car wash at the corner of Sunset and Oakland. They also sold hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, and water. They raised a total of $1,400 at today's fundraiser, but he says that's just the beginning.

Joyner had previously worked with Noah's mother, and said he wanted to help rally the community in efforts to relieve some of the family's monetary stress.

"My goal is to get her to where she don't have to work so hard, where her kids can be taken care of. Birthdays, stuff that she's gonna be struggling with because a piece of them is missing. No matter what a piece of them will always be missing," Joyner said.

After the fundraiser, Joyner told WAND News that Bobbie Lane's BBQ reached out to host another fundraiser to benefit the Edwards family. He said it is still in the planning phase, but that the community is continuing to rally.

Joyner is not the only community member trying to raise funds for the family, there is also a GoFundMe to help support them.
