Coroner: Woman's death not caused by fire

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - A woman found dead in a house fire died from natural causes, a coroner's report says. 

An update from Sangamon County Coroner Cinda Edwards identified the woman found in a house in the 500 block of South Livingston Street as 86-year-old Barbara Monroe. Crews responded to the scene early Monday morning and found her body. 

Edwards concluded after an autopsy that the woman "did not die from the effects of the fire".

Firefighters reported a heavy fire at that address. At one point, it was upgraded to a second alarm fire. One firefighter was injured in the response. 

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
