We now know more about the death of a 22-year-old Decatur man. The victim was with a group of friends, looking to have fun late one September night.
Investigators say on September 26th,, 22-year-old Joshua Aughenbaugh piled into a white Ford pickup truck with friends and rode to a clearing to do doughnuts. It's an act investigators say the group had done before, but this time something went wrong. Decatur Police detectives say when the men drove into the field, it was a very foggy night and visibility was limited. They say a sharp turn of the wheel along with the trucks wheels digging into the ground caused the vehicle to roll.
When police arrived on the scene they say Aughenbaugh was partially ejected from the truck and his arm was pinned under the Ford.
Officers and EMT's tried to revive the 22-year-old, but it was too late. Cops say 22-year-old Jeremy Krall was the one behind the wheel, although Krall denied being the driver when police first arrived on the scene. Later Krall admitted he was the driver of the truck and told cops he had drank several beers. The 22-year-old Warrensburg firefighter has been charged with aggravated DUI, reckless homicide, and 2 counts of obstruction of justice - all for a joyride that ultimately killed his friend.
Wednesday, a Coroner's Jury decided Joshua Aughenbaugh's death was accidental. Krall has bonded out of jail, and has a court hearing set for October 27th.
