Garbage rates for Decatur to increase in 2026

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - New garbage rates for Decatur are set to take effect with the new year.

The rates with the four percent increase were approved by the Decatur City Council during the last negotiation in April 2024.

The new rates will take effect Jan. 1, 2026.

2026 Basic Service (collection of one garbage cart/tote): $28.93/month or $57.86 bi-monthly
2026 Expanded Basic Service (collection of two garbage carts/totes): $40.83/month or $81.66 bi-monthly
Additional carts/totes are $11.90/month

Basic customers will pay $1.11 more per month. Expanded will see an increase of $1.57 per month.

Customers may see this reflected on their current or next garbage bill as some companies bill ahead for service.
