Police arrest - handcuffs (C)

CHAMPAIGN TOWNSHIP, Ill. (WAND) - Two men have been arrested after one threatened to shoot up the Kraft building in Champaign Township and attacked a deputy, the Champaign County Sheriff's Office said.

On December 8 at 7:30 p.m., Champaign County Sheriff's deputies were called to Kraft, 1701 W. Bradley.

Two people were delivery food from a delivery service when deputies said one threatened to "shoot up" Kraft for not being allowed inside the building.

That person was identified as Devante Gathings, 31, of Champaign.

When deputies tried to detain Gathings, they said he resisted and wrapped his arm around one deputy's neck.

Deputies and officers from Champaign Police were able to get him into custody. The deputy was not seriously injured.

Gathings was arrested for aggravated assault, intimidation, aggravated battery to a peace officer, aggravated resisting arrest, and aggravated driving under the influence, as well as on an Iroquois County arrest warrant.

The other person with Gathings was arrested by Champaign police on an unrelated case.
