Effingham fire

EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WAND) - The Effingham Fire Department was called out for a house fire Sunday night.

At 11:34 p.m. EFD responded to a report of a fire in an attic in the 500 block of S. 3rd St. 

Smoke was showing from the exterior of the home when crews arrived. 

Everyone had gotten out of the house safely before firefighters arrived.

The fire was contained to the attic area. Firefighters were on the scene for just under an hour.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Damage is estimated at $50,000.

The Effingham Fire Department was assisted by Effingham City Dispatch, Effingham Police Department, Rural Med EMS, Teutopolis FPD, and Shumway FPD. Station coverage was provided by Altamont and Dieterich FPDs.
