DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The attorney representing a man accused of driving drunk in Decatur withdrew himself from the case Tuesday morning.

Hassan Woods was set for a disposition before Macon County Judge Thomas Griffith. However, Woods' attorney withdrew from the case and the public defender's office was appointed.

Woods was originally arrested in June 2025 for a DUI crash that left 12-year-old Kavari Drisdell dead. However, in December 2025, Macon County State's Attorney Diane Couri said that video footage, witness statements, and reconstruction of the June 15 crash didn't support claims that Hassan Woods' intoxication caused the child's death.

Couri said Illinois State Police and the Illinois State's Attorneys Appellate Prosecutor Office also confirmed that information.

Police said Drisdell was riding his bike just after 5 p.m. on June 15 near the intersection of North Van Dyke Street and West King Street when his bike collided with Woods' Dodge Challenger. Woods' breath sample taken on the scene was 0.176, according to police. The legal limit for alcohol while driving is 0.08.

Woods' case is again sat for a routine hearing in August.
