CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - A 67-year-old man was arrested Sunday afternoon following a stabbing on East University Avenue, according to the Champaign Police Department.

Officers responded to the 200 block of East University Avenue at 3:04 p.m. on Aug. 23, following reports of a stabbing with injuries.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a male victim suffering from what initially appeared to be a life-threatening stab wound. Police administered immediate medical aid, and ambulance crews transported the victim to an area hospital.

Medical staff later determined the injuries were non-life-threatening, and the victim was treated and released.

At the scene, police arrested Robert Steele, 67, on charges of attempted murder for his alleged role in the stabbing.

Authorities have not released information regarding a motive or the relationship between the suspect and the victim.
