DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - A 34-year-old Decatur man was arrested on Thursday after police said he held a woman at gunpoint and fired shots in her direction.

According to a sworn statement, Decatur Police were called to the 1700 block of E Moore St. on July 14, for a report of an aggravated discharge of a firearm and possible kidnapping.

Upon arrival, police spoke with the victim who reported being forcibly taken at gunpoint by a man later identified as Michaelangelo L. Douglas.

The sworn statement said the victim told police that Douglas showed up to her residence upset, claiming juveniles had just burglarized his vehicle. The victim stated Douglas then held a firearm to her head, forced her into a vehicle, and took her to another residence in the 1300 block of East Moore.

The victim told police she was eventually returned to her residence by Douglas's girlfriend, and as she was walking inside her home, she saw Douglas walking on 17th Street, towards her. The victim said he pointed his gun at her and fired three shots in her direction before fleeing from the scene in a vehicle, according to the sworn statement.

Police confirmed they collected three spent .45 caliber shell casings near the home.

Police said a witness corroborated key elements of the victim's statement and produced a photo of an Illinois ID dropped by Douglas at the scene. The witness advised he saw Douglas fire three to four shots from a handgun toward the home.

Police also said a nearby resident had partial surveillance footage of a black Chevrolet Impala arriving at the home in the 1700 block of East Moore Street.

Officers later found the vehicle captured on camera in the backyard of Douglas's residence in the 1300 block of East Moore.
