SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — A 61-year-old man died Monday after jumping into the Sangamon River from a bridge.
The Springfield Police Department said officers responded to a possible domestic violence call in the 4000 block of Sand Hill Road at noon.
When the officers arrived, they found a woman with a serious head injury. Police said she was taken to a hospital for treatment. There were no updates on her condition as of Monday afternoon.
According to police, dispatch received calls about a man jumping from a bridge at Peoria Road and South Sherman Boulevard shortly after noon.
Officers found the man in the river and immediately started CPR, police said. He was pronounced dead by the Sangamon County Coroner at 1:45 p.m.
The coroner's office says an autopsy has been scheduled. The man's identity is being withheld pending the notification of kin.
No other information was immediately available from police.
