JACKSONVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - Springfield and Jacksonville police are searching for a suspect involved in an armed robbery.
According to the Jacksonville Police Department, at approximately 6:58 p.m. on Monday, officers were called to the parking lot of Aldi, located at 329 E. Morton Ave., to respond to a report of an armed robbery.
Upon investigation, police discovered that an unknown suspect, armed with a weapon, had stolen a vehicle and was last seen heading southbound on S. Main St. The individual whose car was stolen sustained minor injuries during the incident and was treated and released at the scene by EMS.
The Jacksonville Police Department notified surrounding agencies and the Illinois State Police about the incident. Shortly thereafter, several 911 calls reported a reckless driver in the Springfield area.
The Southern View Police Department attempted to stop the stolen vehicle driven by the suspect; however, the suspect fled from the officers.
Jacksonville PD was later informed that the stolen vehicle had been involved in an accident, resulting in injuries to others. The suspect then fled the scene of the crash on foot near the intersection of 4th St. and Stanford Ave. in Springfield and remains at large.
The Jacksonville Police Department is currently collaborating with the Springfield Police Department to gather additional leads and information about the suspect.
