Woman hit and killed on interstate near New Berlin

NEW BERLIN, Ill. (WAND) -- An investigation is underway after a woman was found dead along the interstate. 

It happened just after 11 p.m. Saturday. 

Sangamon County Coroner, Jim Allmon, said the 35-year-old woman from New Berlin was found near the eastbound New Berlin exit, on Interstate 72. 

Illinois State Police said, this was a hit and run. It is not known why the woman was walking along the interstate.

ISP is encouraging anyone with information to contact them.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
