DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Sunday, dozens gathered in downtown Decatur for the 10th annual "Cruise 11 to Remember 9/11" event.Â
The theme for this years event is Honor Our Heroes to benefit Our Patriots. The annual event took place in downtown Decatur, in Decatur's Central park.Â
The Cruise 11 serves as a fundraiser to collect donations for the Help 4 Heroes Fund, which provides necessities for local Veterans in need.Â
There were many activities throughout the day. Starting in the morning was a car and bike show. Then throughout the afternoon, there was food, music and fun.Â
One special moment during the event was the First Responders "Thank you" Award Service. Which was created in memory of the heroes of 9/11 and it also recognized the daily service our local first responders.Â
Another award presented at the event is the David Freyling Community Impact Volunteer Award. Organizers say, this award was created in memory of David Freyling, who spent thousands of hours volunteering in Macon County. Freyling passed away July 7, 2018 and was the Chairman of the Macon County Veterans Assistance Commission.Â
