DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) - A Danville man has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty in two separate drug cases.

On December 3, Mathiew Woodard, of Danville, was sentenced after he pleaded guilty in two separate cases to Unlawful Possession of Methamphetamine, a class 1 felony, and Possession of Methamphetamine, a class 3 felony.

He will serve a year of probation following his prison term.

On December 3, 2024, a deputy with the Vermilion County

Sheriff’s Department was investigating a retail theft and questioned Mathiew Woodard. Woodard was found to be in possession of approximately 28 grams of a substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. Further lab tests done by the Illinois State Police Crime Lab also returned positive results for methamphetamine.

Prosecutors also said that on November 6, 2025, Woodard was the driver of a vehicle that was stopped by a deputy with the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department for Illinois Vehicle Code violations. The deputy saw a container of suspected cannabis in plain view near the center console.

Woodard gave the container to the deputy and admitted the substance was “weed.” The deputy searched the vehicle and found a torn baggie underneath the driver’s seat that contained a crystalline substance consistent in appearance with methamphetamine. The substance field-tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine.

Vermilion County State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy said, “Repeated possession of methamphetamine endangers the entire community. I would like to thank the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department for their work in these cases and their dedication to protect the public from illegal drug activity."
