DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Following the arrest of two people accused of making methamphetamine lollipops, the Decatur Police Department is continuing to crack down on drug dealers in the area.

This is just one part of a much larger meth use issue in Macon County. In November alone, the Street Crimes Division seized 26 pounds of methamphetamines, totaling up to $33,000 worth of product. For comparison, they seized less than a pound of methamphetamines in October.

DPD Deputy Chief Scott Rosenbery explained that meth is becoming more popular since it is cheaper than its other illicit counterparts, like cocaine. The street price of cocaine is $100 a gram, while meth is only $50 a gram.

"It's almost half the price of cocaine. And I think that's exactly why we're seeing an increase, because people are able to obtain it cheaper and it's more accessible," Rosenbery said.
