DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – A Decatur business was demolished Thursday following a large fire the day before.Â
The fire broke out Wednesday morning, according to the Decatur Fire Department.
Decatur firefighters responded to Belvidere Liquors on North Water Street near East Garfield Avenue. According to the department, firefighters were returning from another call around 6 a.m. when they saw the smoke from the liquor store and responded.
Flames and smoke could be seen coming from the roof of the business.
Because of the large response of firefighters several streets were blocked off for hours. North Water Street is closed at Grand Ave. so the building can be demolished. It’s not clear when the road will be reopened. Drivers should use Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. as an alternative.
Decatur firefighters were on scene for several hours putting out flames and checking for hot spots.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
No injuries have been reported.Â
