DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Deputy Chief Brian Cleary will retire this month after 30 years of service with the Decatur Police Department. He joined the department on May 23, 1995, and will retire exactly 30 years later, on May 23, 2025.

"I would like to extend my congratulations to Deputy Chief Brian Cleary on his outstanding 30-year career with the Decatur Police Department," Police Chief Brad Allen said. "Throughout his career, Deputy Chief Cleary has held numerous key roles and has been instrumental in driving the department's progress and success. I wish him all the very best as he concludes this chapter in law enforcement."

Cleary is a native of Decatur and graduated from St. Teresa High School. After several years of working in Patrol, he was promoted to Sergeant in 2006 and then to Lieutenant in 2015. Since 2022, he has served as the Deputy Chief of Police for the Investigations Division.

Chief Allen will announce a new Deputy Chief of the Investigations Division in the coming weeks.
