MAROA, Ill. (WAND)- Time to grab those boots and shovels!
"It takes a several days to clean up from a storm like this," says Jeremy Minder, a Highway Maintainer with the Illinois Department of Transportation. Minder is just one of the many operators, helping to dig us out of the aftermath of Sunday's snow.
Although many highways and interstates are improving their driving conditions, community members are left wondering when their neighborhoods and streets will be plowed.
Minder says, IDOT uses a cleanup plan to make sure each road is plowed.
He explains, "The most prioritized areas are the areas that have the high-speed limits, because the high-speed limits in poor weather conditions creates very dangerous accidents." After highways are plowed, then they move onto local streets. "Once we get the main line of the interstate in good working condition, then we can focus on ramps and any side streets. "
But it takes a village to help dig ourselves out of the snow and back into our day-to-day lives.
Community members, like the Maroa-Forsyth football team, spent their morning shoveling snow off driveways for those snowed in.
IDOT says it could take several days for roads to be completely drive-able. To help them make this happen, keep away from the plows and stay off the roads as much as possible.
