DPS Magnet programs accepting applications December 1

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Applications for Decatur Public School's three magnet programs open on December 1.

Those who are interested in enrolling will need to do so online. The Director of Communications & Public Relations with DPS said again this year that the application process will be entirely online with the online application and lottery system, SchoolMint.

A parent meeting is mandatory for each school a family applies to to complete the application. During the meeting, parents can speak directly with the magnet school principals and learn more about the individual programs, including the academic and behavioral expectations.

Attendance at the December sessions is required:

December 2, 2024, at the Decatur Library at 5:30 p.m. in the Madden Auditorium
December 12, 2024, at the Johns Hill Magnet School at 5:30 p.m.
December 19, 2024, at Montessori Academy for Peace at 5:30 p.m.
January 9, 2025, at the Ellsworth Dansby Magnet School

Online applications will close on Friday, January 31, 2025. The school district's office will conduct an electronic lottery in March 2025. Parents and guardians will receive notifications by email or text message.

Students must also participate in a magnet school orientation before the 2025-26 school year.
