SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Morning commuters are being asked to avoid 6th St. and Spruce St. in Springfield as crews battle a fire. 

The Springfield Fire Department is responding to a fire near the intersection.

Drivers are asked to find alternate routes and allow emergency crews to work safely.

An extra engine was requested to help as crews continue to work to put out hot spots.
