Champaign Unit 4 announces new leadership appointments

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - Three new leaders have been appointed to positions within Champaign Unit 4 Schools.

During Monday night’s Board of Education meeting, Henry Walker was appointed principal supervisor, Michael Lehr was appointed director of secondary teaching and learning, and Dr. Angela Ward was appointed interim principal of Central High School.

Principal Supervisor – Henry Walker

Walker joined Unit 4 in 2021 as executive director of facilities and services before being named assistant superintendent in 2024. He has also worked as a teacher, assistant principal, principal and director of operations in districts across Central Illinois.

Walker holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Illinois State University, a superintendent endorsement from Eastern Illinois University, and is pursuing a doctorate in Educational Administration and Foundations at ISU.

Director of Secondary Teaching & Learning – Michael Lehr

Lehr brings more than 30 years of experience in education. He previously served as an English teacher, instructional coach and instructional coordinator before joining Unit 4 in 2014. In his new role, he will oversee secondary curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional learning.

Interim Central High School Principal – Dr. Angela Ward

Dr. Ward has worked in Unit 4 since 1995, beginning as a literature teacher at Columbia Alternative High School. She later served as dean of students, assistant principal and principal at Franklin Middle School, and most recently held district leadership roles focused on equity, achievement and community engagement.
