(WAND) - The University of Illinois System announced that it purchased a building in downtown Chicago for the permanent headquarters of UIUC's Discovery Partners Institute.Â
The building is located at 250 S. Wacker Drive.
It will serve as a spot for researchers and students to work towards innovations in AI, computing, quantum technologies, etc., per the university system.Â
The headquarters will even work alongside a quantum-focused facility being developed on the city's South Side.Â
According to the UI System, it bought the building for $23.75 million from South Wacker Real Estate Holding Inc.Â
"This new space gives us the flexibility to expand high-impact programs, connect companies with the University of Illinois System’s extraordinary talent and research capabilities, and generate new opportunities for workers, startups and established industries. It reinforces our commitment to driving inclusive growth for the entire state," said System President Tim Killeen in a statement.
Additionally, the building will help the DPI better connect UIUC students and faculty with Chicago-based companies and other civic and academic partners.Â
More information is available on the University of Illinois System's website.Â
