EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WAND) — On Monday, the Effingham Fire Department was able to reunite with a woman rescued last fall.
Terrie Tudor, a woman who survived an anhydrous ammonia HAZMAT exposure while traveling through the area, met with firefighters at Effingham’s Central Fire Station.
A National Transportation Safety Board report said that the deadly HAZMAT crash in Teutopolis last October was caused by a vehicle passing a tanker in a no-pass zone. Five people were killed from the ammonia exposure and another dozen received injuries ranging from minor to severe.
Tudor spent time with firefighters Ben Siemer and Johnathon Paholke. Lieutenant John Stroud was unable to attend the reunion, but EFD said his "heroic actions and unwavering bravery were deeply felt and honored by all present."
In July, Effingham firefighters were honored at a city council meeting for their work during the crash on Highway 40.
