DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Easter is coming up quickly, and organizations across Central Illinois are preparing to host a variety of events. Old King's Orchard Community Orchard kicked off festivities with an Easter egg hunt, where kids had a lot of fun trying to find three special golden eggs.Â
At the Scovill Zoo, the team is preparing for their own event tomorrow. The Critter Egg Hunt kicks off at 1:20 with a time for kids of all ages with special needs to hunt for eggs. After that, there will be three heats with specific areas for each age range.Â
"We'll have different like color coded and off areas for different age groups, like two areas for 3 to 5 year olds, one area for toddlers and then for the 6 to 10 year olds, they're in their own section," said Lizzie Van Ert, Education and Volunteer Coordinator. "That way we don't feel like there's too big of a variety of age groups all trying to get eggs in one area."Â
The zoo is open normal hours, but with a reduced price admission of $3. If weather gets too bad, event details may be changed. For the latest information, check the Scovill Zoo Facebook page.Â
If egg hunts aren't your style, you can also visit the flea market at KC Finds. The event is indoors and gives you the chance to browse items from local vendors, including Easter basket goodies.Â
"From noon until 6:00 p.m. we have a food truck, Joni's Express, and we have Rockwell Coffee, and, we have an additional 22 vendors in addition to our over 150 vendors that we already have," said Carol Kessler, owner of KC Finds. "You can shop the entire store. When you check out, you get to pick an egg and it will have a discount anywhere from 10 to 30% off in it."Â
Many local churches are hosting their own Easter events, and there are several egg hunts across the area. For more details, visit the community calendar.Â
