LOAMI, Ill. (WAND) - A family was able to escape unharmed from a house fire near Loami Monday.
The Chatham Fire Department was called to the house fire just after 4 p.m. in the 9700 block of Lead Line Road.
Firefighters found heavy smoke and flames showing from the interior and the back of the house when they arrived.
Everyone in the home had already gotten out safely.
Chatham firefighters were assisted by Auburn and New Berlin fire departments to bring the situation under control.
While searching the home, firefighters were able to safely rescue the family’s pet cat, and it is in good condition.
The home sustained major fire, smoke, and water damage and is uninhabitable.
Chatham Fire Department requested assistance from the Office of the State Fire Marshal for a cause and origin investigation. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.Â
