DANVILLE, Ill. (WAND) — The Habitat for Humanity ReStore in Danville caught fire Thursday night.

Executive Director, Jonathan Gibson said that the building had been closed and secured by 5 p.m. on Thursday. The fire began sometime in the 5 o'clock hour. No employees were present, and no injuries have been reported so far.

Witnesses recorded flames showing through the roof of the building, followed by a small explosion through the roof and the front overhead door on the structure, believed to be from an LP tank bleve.

Firefighters found heavy black smoke and flames showing through the roof and out the front overhead door. The fire was confined mostly to the center section of the building, thanks to fire walls separating the building into three sections.

Firefighters got the fire under control in about an hour and a half.

The majority of damage was contained to the middle portion of the building, structure and contents valued at approximately $250,000 loss, with extensive damage to the roof.

The showroom area sustained minimal damage.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The ReStore is the main fundraising effort for Habitat for Humanity of Danville. The damage comes at a difficult time as the holidays are typically the busiest time for the store.

Habitat for Humanity operates in all 50 states and helps to provide individuals and families with housing.
