ILLIOPOLIS, IL- Volunteer firefighters from Illiopolis, Niantic and Buffalo-Mechanicsburg were called out to a fire at an Illiopolis business late Wednesday morning.
The fire broke out in a storage room at Gem Insulation around 11:15 a.m.
Firefighters managed to contain the flames to just one room.
Niantic Fire Chief Randy Hiser says they are fortunate that they arrived at the fire when they did, because there are chemicals stored in other rooms of the business.
Firefighters closed a nearby railroad track while they fought the fire. The fire is believed to be caused by an overheated battery.
