DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The Macon County Coroner's Office will be holding a graveside service for 19 unclaimed sets of cremated remains.
Overseer Thomas Walker of the Main Street Church of the Living God will officiate the graveside service on Oct. 25 at 10:00 a.m. The service will be conducted with a burial to follow at Boiling Springs Cemetery in Decatur.
If any responsible blood relatives wish to claim any of the remains for family disposition, they can call the Macon County Coroner's Office at 217-424-1348. They will be available for release until Tuesday, Oct. 24 at the Coroner's Office at 253 E. Wood St. in room 250.
Community members are welcome to attend the service in order to pay respects to the deceased.
Names and ages are listed below:
- Human Skeleton – The coroner was contacted by a local funeral director who had been contacted by a Decatur School District employee on how to handle the appropriate disposition of an unidentified medical specimen in the school district’s possession. The skeleton was purchased decades ago for anatomical study and was in poor condition. The coroner took charge and had it cremated.
- Arnold G. Fobbs, Date of Death: 09/30/2001 – Fobbs died in Decatur Memorial Hospital from natural causes. The coroner made multiple attempts to locate family members but was unsuccessful. Fobbs was 64.
- Jack Dean Davis, Date of Death: 07/16/2005 – Davis was found dead in his home in Decatur. His cremated remains were found in 2014 and no one claimed them. Davis was 60.
- Edward Milton John, Date of Death: 06/05/2014 – John died in the ER at Decatur Memorial Hospital from an accidental death. No family has been located. John was 79.
- Paul N. Primm, Date of Death: 12/21/2012 – Primm died at St. Mary’s from natural causes. His family was unable to take charge of his remains. Primm was 71.
- Michael Derek Carroll, Date of Death: 09/27/2012 – Carroll died from natural causes at Decatur Memorial Hospital. The coroner has been unable to locate next of kin. Carroll was 58.
- Jeffrey Michael Depenbrok, Date of Death: 01/11/2016 – Depenbrok was found dead in his apartment. Family members were unable to take charge of his remains. Depenbrok was 45.
- Ruth Douglas, Date of Death: 05/11/2016 – Douglas died in a Decatur nursing home from natural causes. She had no known family. Douglas was 65.
- Alfred Newlin, Date of Death: 02/04/2016 – Newlin died from natural causes at St. Mary’s Hospital. He had no known family. Newlin was 83.
- John Dove Harbarger, Date of Death: 10/02/2017 – Harbarger died of natural causes at St. Mary’s. He was a ward of the state with no known living family. Harbarger was 78.
- Myrtle Stevens, Date of Death: 02/18/2018 – Stevens died at Decatur Memorial. Her family was unable to take charge of her remains. Stevens was 80.
- Sean Smith, Date of Death: 03/13/2012 – Smith died at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. His remains ended up in Decatur where they were found in 2018. No one was able to claim them. Smith was 44.
- Dale J. Navarro, Date of Death: 01/14/20 – Navarro was found dead at his apartment. Family was unable to claim his remains. Navarro was 54.
- Dejettie Currie, Date of Death: 01/14/2019 – Currie died of natural causes at Decatur Memorial. No one could be located to take charge of his remains. Currie was 61.
- Michael Duane Hall, Date of Death: 06/26/2019 – Hall was found dead at a friend’s house. No one could be located to take charge of his remains. Hall was 49.
- Tara Booker, Date of Death: 09/08/2022 – Booker died at the ER after having collapsed. No one could be located to take her remains. Booker was 45.
- Michael D. Davids, Date of Death: 12/09/2022 – Davids was found dead in his apartment by a neighbor. No one could be located to take his remains. Davids was 65.
- Tony E. Fisher,, Date of Death: 04/18/2022 – Fisher was found dead in his residence by his landlord. No one could be located to take his remains. Fisher was 61.
- Unidentified Human Cremains – Found in an unusual blue glass container that was discovered in the alley behind the 1700 block of N. Main Street in Decatur. The story and photo ran in the news but no leads came from the information.
