(WAND) - Illinois State Police is issuing the third round of firearm enforcement grants totaling $1.5 million to law enforcement agencies across the state.
This funding is to conduct enforcement details for individuals legally barred from having a gun.
The enforcement details focus on people who have become the subject of a Firearm Restraining Order or Clear and Present Danger or received a criminal conviction, among other reasons.
“People who have made homicidal or suicidal threats and clearly pose a danger to the public should not have a firearm,” said ISP Director Brendan F. Kelly. “These grants can help local law enforcement agencies pay for enforcement details to ensure those who are legally prohibited from having a firearm do not have them in their possession.”
The following law enforcement agencies are receiving Fiscal Year 2025 firearm enforcement grants.

In Fiscal Year 2023, ISP awarded almost $1 million in firearm enforcement grants to 30 law enforcement agencies. During that time, local law enforcement agencies completed 311 details consisting of 3,557 compliance checks.
As a result of those efforts, 1,151 individuals were placed directly into compliance, transferring all guns out of their possession and documenting that transfer with a Firearm Disposition Record.
ISP awarded another $1 million in grants to 16 law enforcement agencies in Fiscal Year 2024.
Law enforcement agencies that are members of the Violent Crime Intelligence Task Force are eligible to receive grants from the State Police Enforcement Fund. Funding will help agencies conduct firearms enforcement details and ensure guns are turned over to a person who is legally allowed to possess them or to law enforcement.
Funding for the enforcement grants comes from the State Police Enforcement Fund and were made possible through Public Act 102-0237.
