Fire, fire fighter, fire truck

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — Nine people were rescued after a three story apartment building caught fire Sunday afternoon.

The Champaign Fire Department responded just after 4 p.m. to the 12-unit apartment building in the 2400 block of High View Court.

Firefighters saw smoke coming from a second and third floor balcony when they arrived. Crews found eight people on balconies and rescued them using ladders. A ninth person and a dog were rescued from inside an apartment.

One person was treated on scene and taken to the hospital for further evaluation. No firefighters were hurt.

The department is still investigating what caused the fire.
