DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – There will be a move this legislative session to toughen up an Illinois drunk driving law. A bill is pending in the Illinois House to lower the legal blood alcohol limit for drivers from .08 to .05.

“At .08 people have a reduced ability to concentrate,” Erin Doherty of Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) told WAND News. “They have difficulty controlling themselves or their speed behind the wheel.”

If passed, the new law will apply to drivers of motor vehicles, snowmobiles, boats and other watercraft.

The measure is pending in an Illinois House committee.
