DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — A Decatur man was arrested after police found over 300 counts of child pornography on his phone.
According to the Decatur Police Department, officers received a tip in October 2024 regarding child pornography being shared online. Police found a connection to a home in Decatur during an investigation.
In December 2025, police said a Homeland Security investigations agent and a DPD detective received information from a law enforcement agency in Australia, which allowed them to further investigate the case.
According to a sworn statement, an undercover officer in Australia started communicating with 45-year-old Alan Whitcomb.
The sworn statement said the undercover officer used IP grabber software, tracing Whitcomb to a Decatur home.
On February 5, Decatur police searched Whitcomb's home. Police said officers seized several electronic devices from the home, including Whitcomb's phone.
Police searched Whitcomb's phone and found 336 files depicting child pornography, according to the sworn statement. He was arrested on February 13 on several child pornography charges.
Court records show that Whitcomb was denied pretrial release. His preliminary hearing is set for March 4.
