Crime stoppers generic

CLINTON, Ill. (WAND) — After almost 40 years of service, the Clinton Crime Stoppers disbanded on Wednesday.

According to the Clinton Police Department, the organization's members voted unanimously to formally disband at Wednesday night's meeting.

The police department said the decision is due to reduced funding from the court system, increasing operational costs outweighing revenue and a decline in public use of the program in recent years.

"While the decision to disband is deeply understood, the absence of this long-standing community partner will certainly be felt," the Clinton Police Department said in a Facebook post. "Your time, dedication, an unwavering support have made a lasting impact on our community and our collective mission to ensure public safety."
