EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WAND) - A Virginia man arrested in Effingham back in May on multiple charges, including arson and burglary, was found not guilty by reason of insanity.

Patrick Galyen, 38, from Fredericksburg, Virginia, was arrested May 20 on charges of arson, burglary, criminal damage to property and resisting/obstructing a peace officer.

Effingham police found that Galyen had forcibly entered Al's Tire Mart, breaking its glass door.

Further investigation by Effingham police stated that the Land of Lincoln Credit Union had suffered damage, and also tied Galyen to a vehicle fire around the same time in the Walmart parking lot on the Avenue of Mid-America.

According to court records, Galyen was found to have committed the crimes, but did not understand his actions at the time, which is why he was found not guilty by reason of insanity.

Galyen is expected to cooperate with the Illinois Department of Human Services for evaluation and a treatment plan.

A status hearing for Galyen is set for 9 a.m. on Feb. 4.
