UPDATE 8/28/26: New shift crews are working on the site as of Friday morning. CWLP reports the break in the 24-inch main was 12 feet long. Crews are working to replace 20 feet of main. 

The City is sending building and electrical inspectors to area businesses to assist with assessment for safety and restoration efforts. 

Power remains off to 51 in the area. 

Customers impacted by the power outage include those on the south side of Monroe Street to the north side of Capitol Avenue and along 3rd, 4th, and 5th Streets on the same block.


SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) 8/27/26- 9:00 PM  - The City of Springfield reported road closures due to a significant water main break Thursday night. 

According to the City, Monroe Street is closed between 4th and 5th Streets following a 24-inch break. 

The road closures will remain until further notice. 

Businesses on the south side of Monroe Street in that area are also currently without power. 

Anyone who needs to access a building or business in the area must do so on foot. 

Motorists are also urged to find alternative routes.
