SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Downers-Grove-based Chemring Energetic Devices is the company behind the winner of the "Coolest Things Made in Illinois."
Public voting in the Illinois Manufacturers' Association's Makers Madness contest took place for weeks, narrowing the products down from a field of over 100 entries.
Chemring Energetic Devices produced the NASA standard initiator, a piece of tech that was onboard the Artemis II and Orion spacecraft.
"I’m proud to congratulate the brilliant minds at Chemring Energetic Devices on their Makers Madness victory. The NASA Standard Initiator helped make Artemis II’s historic mission possible and literally took Illinois innovation to the moon," said Gov. JB Pritzker in a statement.Â
Other finalists were the John Deere combine, the duck skimmer, and the Aerapy PPR HVAC UV system.
