(WAND) — Illinois Department of Transportation crews are gearing up for their busy season as a winter storm is building up for the weekend.
IDOT's Paul Wappel says they are already putting brine on the roads, which makes it easier for them to salt them after the storm.
"We've been pre-treating roads, our snow plows are ready with salt and staff and other materials, and our crews will be out in force later today," Wappel said.
Wappel explained that the plow team is ready for a long weekend.
"Cleanup efforts more than likely are going to continue until Sunday — we'll be out on all the roads as long as needed," he said.
