SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - An unused City Water, Light and Power railroad bridge over Interstate 55 in Springfield will be removed beginning Monday night, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.Â
IDOT said the CWLP bridge is over I-55 at milepost 94, and during this time, there will be overnight lane closures from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday night through Friday morning.
"Commuters from 7 to 4 p.m., they should not see any difference in traffic, but we will be needing to shut down some lanes in the month of February," said IDOT Region 4 Communications Liaison Joe Schatteman.Â
There will be complete closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday night to Friday morning, beginning in March.Â
Additionally, there will be a detour running through Stevenson Drive and Sixth Street.Â
IDOT added that the project will last a few months, with the bridge likely being removed in April.
