SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) – Thanksgiving will see senior citizens and those in need receive a hot meal, including turkey, at the St. John’s Breadline.

The free meals are being provided through a partnership between the Illinois Life & Health Insurance Council (ILHIC), Turasky Meats and IL Sen. Doris Turner.

ILHIC is providing financial support toward the donation of 50 smoked turkeys, which have been delivered to the breadline located at 430 North 5th Street.

“The face of hunger. The face of homelessness is changing,” Turner told WAND News. “In areas where people used to think that residents are more affluent, we’re seeing people struggle.”

The St. John’s Breadline has been providing meals for 96 years.
