(WAND) — ImpactLife is looking for blood donors over the holiday weekend, with a "critical" need for type O donations.
According to the blood center, keeping up with demand for blood components has been a major challenge this week, and the nonprofit has a critical need for type O-negative and O-positive red blood cells, as well as platelet donations from all blood types.
ImpactLife said more donations are needed to ensure a strong and stable blood supply despite an expected decrease in donations over the holiday weekend.
"The week ahead of Fourth of July can be challenging for the blood supply," Donor Scheduling Director Tara Matheson said. "Parades, fireworks, and a three-day weekend mean a lot of people will take some time off to celebrate, but patients who need a blood transfusion can't wait. We're looking forward to a strong week to ensure we're able to meet patient needs through the Fourth of July weekend."
ImpactLife donation center locations and information on how to book a blood donation appointment can be found on the organization's website.
