Rantoul sports complex expects up to 40K people

RANTOUL, Ill. (WAND) – Thousands of people will be coming into Rantoul this weekend for three major sports tournaments. All three are at the massive Rantoul Family Sports Complex.

“We’re estimating anywhere between 30,000 and 40,000 people coming,” Sports Complex Director of Operations Brandon Denton told WAND News. “It will be our biggest one probably within the last three years. I think our second biggest of all time.”

The tournaments include three sports. Soccer, baseball and softball.

“We’ve got 43 baseball and softball teams coming to town. Those games start Saturday and they’ll go through Sunday. Soccer is bringing 137 teams to town,” Denton said.

If hotels in Rantoul are booked, people can go to Champaign or Urbana. Those communities are only about a 15-minute drive from the sports complex.

The Rantoul Family Sports Complex is at exit 250 on Interstate 57.
