SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Springfield Public Schools is fighting back against phishing scams.
Superintendent Jennifer Gill said the district has been targeted by scammers impersonating her and other district leaders, trying to get staff to click on unsafe links.
The District 186 school board approved a contract with the company Abnormal AI on Monday night.
"They're using AI and different platforms to really make these emails look very genuine. Its really hard for people to detect, even with all the education and the PD we've made for staff. Its made it hard for people to detect some of these emails," said District 186 Manager of Technology Services Stephen Minch.
The company will filter out phishing, spoofing and spam, so they never make it to employees' inboxes.
The district will spend about $75,000 on the contract.
