SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — City Water, Light and Power (CWLP) issued a boil order affecting 64 water customers in the Skyline Heights neighborhood of Springfield. It is expected to stay in place through the weekend.
CWLP says residents of Star Avenue, Mars Avenue and Neptune Avenue are all in the affected area. They said anyone affected will receive door-to-door notice.
The company flushed the water main and took multiple samples, per regulations. One set of samples did not meet CWLP standards, causing them to issue the order. More sampling will be done to confirm the quality of the water is back up to standard before the order is lifted, which is anticipated to be Monday, May 12.
CWLP says customers under a boil order should boil any tap water they plan on drinking or using to cook. The water should be brought to a rolling boil for 5 minutes and then cooled.
The company will give door-to-door notice to affected customers when the order is lifted. Anyone with further questions can contact the CWLP water communications desk at 217-789-2323 ext. 2.
