SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — The city of Springfield will begin removing parking meters from the downtown area this month.
The change comes as the city said it is working to beautify downtown and create a more welcoming experience for residents and visitors.
The city said parking downtown will continue to be free. Anyone parking is encouraged to look for signage stating how much time is allowed in each parking zone.
The city said it hopes the improvements "encourage more people to come downtown to shop, dine, conduct business, and enjoy the many cultural and entertainment opportunities available throughout the area."
