Fire, fire fighter, fire truck

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) - A call for the fire department at International Prep Academy in Champaign was due to a failed light fixture, the Champaign Fire Department said.

CFD was called out to the school at 1605 W. Kirby Ave. at 8:22 a.m. Tuesday.

Multiple people had reported a fire in the school's gym. Firefighters, however, said nothing was showing from outside the building when they arrived.

The school had already been safely evacuated when firefighters got on scene.

Firefighters found a failed light fixture in the gym that had produced moderate smoke, mainly contained to the gym. There was no active fire.

At that time, CFD downgraded the call from a working fire.

WAND News spoke with International Prep Academy. They said all students have since returned to class as normal.
