DECATUR, Ill. - (WAND) - An investigation is underway after an "inappropriate term" was found on a work assignment board at Splash Cove, according to the water park.

In a Facebook post on the water park's page, the unsigned post said an "incident involving two seasonal employees" happened Monday.

"The Decatur Park District does not condone any form of racism, harassment, or any other action that degrades another individual," the Facebook post said. DPD administrators and human resources are investigating the issue.

Splash Cove said its the largest employer of first-time teenage employees in Decatur and part of their job is to teach, "these young adults what is appropriate and what is not appropriate in the workplace."

The Facebook post reiterated the incident is a human resources issue, but did not say what actions could be taken against the employees, if any.

The post said this is a teachable moment for all its young employees.

DPD Commissioner Stacey Young shared the post to her Facebook page and said this incident was not a case of overt racism.

"We have to be careful drawing conclusions with limited information," she wrote in a post Tuesday evening. "And a lesson that jokes in the workplace, even among friends, can be misconstrued."

Young said DPD does not want to see this repeated in the future. She stated the situation will be handled appropriately and with discretion, but did not elaborate. Young concluded her post by encouraging people to visit Splash Cove.

WAND is following this developing story.
