Kroger in Decatur and Lincoln closing

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - A longtime grocery store in Decatur is set to close, according to a Kroger spokesperson.

Kroger located at 1401 W. King Street will close at the end of the month.

This announcement comes just a few days after Convey Health Solutions, also located in Fairview Plaza announced they would close.

According to a release from the company, they hoped the store could return to profitability, however the company realized keeping the store open was no longer realistic. With the release set to expire at the end of the month they made the decision to close.

The fuel center will also close.

Customers will still have to locations in Decatur and a location in Mt. Zion that they can shop at.

Currently 95 employees work at the Kroger in Fairview Plaza. Kroger will work with those employees to find them other positions at another Decatur store.

The company also confirms they are closing the Lincoln, Illinois store at 1475 Woodlawn Road. Their lease is also set to expire at the end of the month and  the company realized this would be the best time to close the store.

Kroger praised the stores’ associates, "saying the closings are not a reflection on them or their work. Both stores have performed extremely well and have been committed to customer service in spite of the business challenges experienced by their store.  Kroger will continue to count on their dedication through the coming month."

The Kroger in Fairview Plaza has been in operation since 1955.

A third location in Indianapolis was also on the list of store closing in the Central Division for Kroger.Â
