Mattoon - The Sears store in Mattoon began their liquidation sale this Friday.

 

The store will close to the public in late April,  because the lease was not renewed. The closure is also part of a series of closures nationwide.

 

The Director of Corporate Communications, Howard Riefs said "the actions we're taking to reduce ongoing expenses, adjust our asset base, and accelerate the transformation of our business model."

 

The store in Mattoon employs 43 people. Those associates are eligible to receive severance and have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Sears or Kmart stores.
