DECATUR, Ill. (WAND)- New Year's Resolutions can range from financial goals, personal betterment, and promotions. But for many people, better physical fitness is also a primary goal.Â
"We're seeing all ages," said Melissa Rinchiuso, the membership coordinator for the Decatur Indoor Sports Complex. "Many of out seniors just want better balance so they aren't as big of a fall risk. Other age groups want to be able to bench press of go on a hike with friends."
On New Year's Day alone, Rinchiuso had several people sign up for memberships in the hopes of getting more fit. She says the DISC offers classes and personalized meetings with staff members so that the goal of getting fit feels less intimidating.Â
"Staff members can go through what your goals are and show you how to use some of the machines to reach your goals," said Rinchiuso. "Our classes are also geared towards all levels. So if you aren't quite at the same level of everyone else is doing they have modifications so everyone can feel included."Â
Many people have issues with following through on their fitness goals because they are too big or too broad. If you want to achieve a big goal, like running a marathon, it can be more beneficial to break the goal down. If you aim to run 5 miles, then 10, then 15, it can be easier to see your progress then aiming for a much bigger numbers.Â
"Do not get discouraged that it's the results are not quick to come, you're going to hurt, and you're going to be sore," said Rinchiuso. "But don't get discouraged and keep with it. I love when I see people who've come in at the start of this new year and then when we hit like May or so I still see them coming in in the mornings."Â
