CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — Libraries throughout the 52nd Senate District are receiving a combined 330,143 in grants.Â
Public Library Per Capita Grants are awarded annually to support local public libraries. This will include a one-time technology grant to help upgrade technology for libraries in need. The grant can also be used for operational needs, including purchasing materials for their collections and making improvements to facilities.Â
Champaign — $131,128
Urbana — $56,928
Danville — $70,867
Oakwood — $8,274
Rantoul — $45,870
Westville — $17,076
Tricia Duzan, deputy director at Champaign Public Library, said they'd be able to use the grant money to help expand their services and programs and build up their collection. "Getting the books in the hands of kids, is is fantastic. And that's what we're here to do."
Duzan said the bulk of their grant money would go towards expanding their collection of books, graphic novels, e-books, and digital resources. Duzan said she'd like to build up their digital collection and make sure it is diverse and robust for the community.
